Cozy Hoodie Free Crochet Pattern Sizes

1-2 and 3-4 lb

This cozy baby Hooded cardigan is made using a simple hdc stitch and is quick and easy to work up, there are no actual button holes to make as the buttons fit through the hdc.

Materials

80 g Paintbox Yarns LoveCrafts I used lipstick pink, kingfisher blue, daffodil yellow, washed teal and paper white

3.5 and 4 mm hook

4 x 12mm buttons

Written in English US terms with abbreviations for UK terms.

sc=single crochet (which is double crochet in UK terms)

hdc=half double crochet (which is half treble crochet UK terms)

ch=chain

inc=increase 

dec=decrease

rpt=repeat

slst=slip stitch

Gauge Square

With 4 mm hook

Row1 Ch11, hdc in 3rd ch from hook and each chain across. (9) Turn

Row2-4 ch1, hdc in base of ch1, hdc 8. (9) Turn

Square should measure just over 2 inches.

If you're out with a 4 mm hook try a 4.5 mm hook.

If you have problems hitting the length but the width is ok, try dc instead of hdc.

Preemie 1-2lb

Size to fit: 10 Inch chest Premature Baby

Length from shoulder approx 5.5 Inches

Sleeve length from shoulder 5.5 inches

Ch26 with 4mm hook

Row 1: 1 hdc in 3rd ch from hook, 1 hdc in each of next 2ch, 3 hdc in next ch, 1 hdc in each of next 3ch, 3 hdc in next ch, 1 hdc in each of next 8ch, 3 hdc in next ch, 1 hdc in each of next 3ch, 3 hdc in next ch, 1 hdc in each of next 3ch.  (32) Turn

 

Row 2: ch1, 1 hdc in base of ch1, 1 hdc in each of next 3, 3 hdc in next, 1 hdc in each of next 5, 3 hdc in next, 1 hdc in each of next 10, 3 hdc in next, 1 hdc in each of next 5, 3 hdc in next, 1 hdc in each of next 4. (40) Turn

 

Row 3: ch1, 1 hdc in base of ch1, 1 hdc in each of next 4, 3 hdc in next, 1 hdc in each of next 7, 3 hdc in next, 1 hdc in each of next 12, 3 hdc in next, 1 hdc in each of next 7, 3 hdc in next, 1 hdc in each of next 5.  (48) Turn

Row 5: ch1, 1 hdc in base of ch1, 1 hdc in each of next 6, 3 hdc in next, 1 hdc in each of next 11, 3 hdc in next, 1 hdc in each of next 16, 3 hdc in next, 1 hdc in each of next 11, 3 hdc in next, 1 hdc in each of next 7. (64) Turn

 

Row 6: (Divide for arm holes) ch1, 1 hdc in base of ch1, 1 hdc in each of the next 7, 3 hdc in next, skip next 13, 3 hdc in next, 1 hdc in each of the next 18, 3 hdc in next, skip next 13, 3 hdc in next, 1 hdc in each of the next 8. (45) Turn

Row 7: ch1, hdc in base of ch1,  hdc to end. (45) Turn

Repeat Row 7 until work measures approximately 5.5 Inches from the shoulder. 

 

Hood

 

With 4mm hook

Row 1: With RS facing Join yarn at top and ch1 hdc in base of ch1 and next 23. (24) Turn

Row 2: ch1, hdc in base of ch1, hdc all. (24) Turn

 

Repeat row 2 until 13 rows or hood measures 3.75 inches.

Fold hood in half and slst together from the inside.

 

Sleeves

 

With 4mm hook

Row 1: join yarn under arm, ch1, 1 hdc in base of ch1, 1 hdc in each of next 17, slst to first. (18) Turn

Row 2-3: ch1, hdc in same, hdc all, slst to first. (18) Turn

Row 4: ch1, dec, hdc to end, slst to first. (17) Turn

Row 5-6: ch1, hdc to end, slst to first. (17) Turn

Row 7: ch1, dec, hdc to end,  slst to first. (16) Turn

Row 8: ch1, dec, hdc at end, slst to first. (15) Turn

Row 9: ch1, hdc to end, slst to first. (15) Turn

Row 10: ch1, dec, hdc to end,  slst to first. (14) Turn

Row 11: ch1, hdc to end, slst to first. (14) Turn

Repeat row 11 until the sleeve measures 5.5 inches from the shoulder, doing the last row with contrasting colour.

Fasten off and repeat for the other sleeve.

Preemie 2-4lb

Ch32  with 4mm hook

Row 2: ch1, 1 hdc in base of ch1, 1 hdc in each of next 4, 3 hdc in next, 1 hdc in each of next 6, 3 hdc in next, 1 hdc in each of next 12, 3 hdc in next, 1 hdc in each of next 6, 3 hdc in next, 1 hdc in each of next 5. (46) Turn

Hood

 

With 4mm hook

Row 1: With RS facing Join yarn at top  and ch1 hdc in base of ch1 and next 29. (30) Turn

Row 2: ch1, hdc in base of ch1, hdc all (30) Turn

Repeat row 2 until 12 rows or hood measures 4.5 inches.

 

Fold hood in half and slst together from the inside.

 

Sleeves

 

With 4mm hook

Row 1: join yarn under arm, ch1, 1 hdc in base of ch1, 1 hdc in each of next 19, slst to first. (20) Turn

Row 2-3: ch1, hdc in same, hdc all, slst to first. (20) Turn

Row 4: ch1, dec, hdc to end, slst to first. (19) Turn

Row 5-6: ch1, hdc to end, slst to first(19) Turn

Row 7: ch1, dec, hdc to end,  slst to first. (18) Turn

Row 8: ch1, dec, hdc at end, slst to first. (17) Turn

Row 9: ch1, hdc to end, slst to first. (17) Turn

Row 10: ch1, dec, hdc to end,  slst to first. (16) Turn

Row 11: ch1, hdc to end, slst to first. (16) Turn

 

Repeat row 11 until the sleeve measures 6 inches from shoulder.

Fasten off and repeat for the other sleeve.

Button Band (both sizes)

 

With 3.5mm hook

Row 1: starting at left side bottom with ws facing join yarn ch1, hdc up left side, hdc round the hood, and hdc down right side. Turn

Row 2: ch1, hdc in base of ch1, hdc all. 

Fasten off make sure your buttons fit through the hdc, then sew your buttons evenly down the right side and sew in all the ends.

 

You could add a row of sc around the whole hoodie starting from the bottom and working up around the hood then back down and around the bottom in a contrasting colour to finish it off.
