Free Easter Chick Amigurumi Crochet Pattern

These cute little chicks are simple to make and don’t take long. A quick and fun make to use up some scrap yarns.

Written in US terms with abbreviations for UK terms

sc=single crochet (double crochet in UK)

hdc=double crochet (half treble crochet UK)

dc=double crochet (treble crochet UK)

inc=increase by 2 sc in the next stitch

dec=decrease by sc next 2 stitches together

ch=chain

Bs=Bobble stitch- yarn over pull up a loop, yarn over pull through 2 stitches x 3 you should have 4 stitches on hook, yarn over and pull through all 4.

Materials 

20g dk/light worsted yarn

2mm hook I use this set from Amazon*

8mm Safety eyes or black yarn for sewn on eyes

Polyester toy stuffing

Needle 

Stitch marker

All parts are made going round in a spiral.


Head 


Rnd1 6 sc in magic circle. (6)

Rnd2 *inc* x 6. (12)

Rnd3 *sc 1, inc* x 6. (18)

Rnd4 *sc 2, inc* x 6. (24)

Rnd5 *sc 3, inc* x 6. (30)

Rnd6-14 sc all. (30)

Place safety eyes between rnd 7 and 8, 5 stitches apart.
Start stuffing and continue throughout.

Rnd15 *sc 3, dec* x 6. (24)

Rnd16 *sc 2, dec* x 6. (18)

Rnd17 *sc 1, dec* x 6. (12)

Rnd18 *dec* x 6. (6)


Fasten off and sew up the opening.

Head Spikes


Cut 4 strands of yarn about 4 inches long.


Fold the strands of yarn in half and pull the center part way through a stitch so its about an inch through forming a loop, then pull the tail ends of yarn through the loop and tighten to form a knot, trim to size.


Wings and Tail

 

Make Three

Ch6, 1 sc in second ch from hook, hdc 1, 2 dc in next, hdc 1, sc 1, Ch2, slst into second ch

working up the other side of the chain, sc 1, hdc 1, 2 dc in next, hdc 1, sc 1, slst to fasten off, leaving a long end for sewing.

Sew a wing at each side, slightly slanted, sew only the top half of the wing so that it flaps out at the bottom.

Then sew one at the centre back for a tail.


With orange or yellow yarn sew a triangle for beak.


Feet

With the chicks head facing upwards,  join yarn to the right of the beak about 5 rounds down. 

Ch1, bs in same, fasten off. 

Skip 4 stitches, join yarn and repeat above.

Sew in all ends.


Daisy

Starting with yellow

Rnd1 8 sc in mc. (8)

Fasten off

Join white
Rnd2 *ch5, sc in second ch from hook and next 3, slst to next stitch of yellow* and repeat 7 times, until eight petals made, slst and fasten off.
