Granny Squares Blanket Free Crochet Pattern

This granny squares baby blanket is made using simple granny squares joined together, then a border.

Materials

300 g Paintbox yarns dk LoveCrafts paper white and a small amount of candyfloss pink and pale lilac

4 mm hook I use this set from Amazon*

 

Written in English US terms with abbreviations for UK

sc=single crochet (double crochet in UK)

hdc=half double crochet (half treble crochet UK)

dc=double crochet (treble crochet UK)

ch=chain

inc=increase 

dec=decrease

ws=wrong side

rs=right side

rpt=repeat

slst=slip stitch

Each square should measure around 4.25 inches

Squares

 

With 4mm hook and contrasting colour

Rnd1 Ch4, slst to first to form a ring, ch3, 2 dc, ch2 *3 dc, ch2* three times, slst to first.

Fasten off.

Rnd2 join white yarn into any corner, ch3, 2 dc, ch2, 3 dc, *3 dc, ch2, 3 dc* in each ch2 space, slst to first then slst to corner.

Rnd3 ch3, 2 dc, ch2, 3 dc* in corner, dc 3 in next space, *3 dc, ch2, 3 dc in the corner, dc 3 in the next space* repeat twice more, slst to first, then slst to corner.

Rnd4 ch3, 2 dc, ch2, 3 dc* in corner, dc 3 in next two spaces, *3 dc, ch2, 3 dc in the corner, dc 3 in the next two spaces* repeat twice more, slst to first.

Rnd5 ch1, sc in base of ch1, sc 2, *sc 1, ch2, sc1* in the corner, sc 12* repeat twice more, sc 1, ch2, sc 1 in the corner, sc 9, slst to first and fasten off.

Slst all the squares together.

After all the squares are joined, begin the border.

 

Border

 

Rnd1 With wrong side facing, join yarn anywhere, ch1, sc in same and all around the blanket with a *sc, ch2, sc* in each corner, slst to first.

Rnd2 ch3, 2 dc in same, *sk2, 3 dc in next* repeat around with *3 dc, ch2, 3 dc* in each corner, slst to first.

Rnd3 ch3, 2 dc, *3 dc* between each cluster from previous rnd and *3 dc, ch2, 3 dc* in each corner, slst to first.

 

Repeat rnd 3 as many times as you want then do the last rnd.

Last rnd ch1, sc in same, *5 dc inbetween next, sc in between next* repeat around, slst to next.

Fasten off.
