The full pattern with sizes XS to 4XL can be purchased here

This bobble sweater is made from the top down starting with a sc rib collar then using a simple dc stitch for three rows then a bobble row. It's quick and easy to work up. Then the arm cuffs and edging is made with a sc rib stitch.

The measurements for lengths is a guide. It's always best to measure your length from shoulder to hem and shoulder to cuff to get a perfect fit.

Materials

1200 metres of Aran weight 4 yarn (I used Stylecraft Special 196 metres per 100g ball) shades Raspberry, Copper, Gold, Meadow, Denim and Plum

4.5 and 5 mm crochet hooks

Written in English US terms with abbreviations for UK

sc = single crochet (double crochet in UK)

dc = double crochet (treble crochet UK)

bs = Bobble stitch- (yarn over, insert hook into next stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 stitches), four times, you should have 5 stitches on hook, yarn over and pull through all 5.

blo = back loop only (crochet into the back loop of the stitch)

ch = chain

inc = increase

slst = slip stitch

[ ] = these stitches should be completed into one stitch or the ch1

* * = in between should be repeated

Gauge

With a 5mm hook

7 dc and 3 rows of dc and 1 row of sc = 2” x 2“

Pattern notes

  • Working in the first stitch the ch1 or ch2 does not count as a stitch, so always ch1 or 2 and sc / dc in the first stitch.

  • On the bobble rows the ch1 corner counts as a stitch.

  • Work needs turning so you are working the wrong side facing, to do the bobble rows, then turning back to the right side afterwards.

  • The corner increase may vary in the amount of stitches, this is to get the right stitch count for the bobble row.

  • The rib edging can be made shorter by chaining less stitches, or longer by chaining more stitches.

  • The sleeves can be decreased by decreasing 1 stitch each round (I decreased (crocheted two stitches together) on each of the dc rounds and on the bobble round (decreased 4 stitches over 4 rounds) then did 4 rounds without decreasing and repeated, to taper them in a bit.

  • If you prefer using dk / weight 3 yarn then it will probably work making 1-2 sizes bigger than you want, to check this chain the number of stitches you need to fit around your chest and then make the size that has the nearest number of stitches after the divide for armholes.
