Lots of love blanket

This blanket starts with a heart then working around the heart to make it into a square. Each square will measure approximately 5.5 inch x 5.5 inch.

If made using 4 squares wide by 5 squares long and bordering the finished blanket will be 25 x 30 inches, but this pattern can be made with any number of squares to be as big or small as you like.


Written in English US terms with abbreviations for UK

sc=single crochet (double crochet in UK terms)

hdc=half double crochet (half treble crochet UK Terms)

dc=double crochet (treble crochet UK Terms)

tr=treble crochet (double treble crochet UK Terms)

slst= slip stitch


Materials 

250g White dk / light worsted yarn

100g any combination of darker colour dk / light worsted yarn

4mm hook I use this set from Amazon*

Squares

Starting with a darker colour.

Round 1: mc, ch2, (3 tr, 4 dc, 1 tr, 4 dc, 3 tr) in mc, ch2, slst to the centre of the heart and pull tight. (15)

Round 2: sc in ch2, 2 hdc in next, 3 hdc in next, 2 hdc in next, 1 hdc in next three, 2 hdc in next, (hdc, dc, hdc) in next, 2 hdc in next, 1 hdc in next three, 2 hdc in next, 3 hdc in next, 2 hdc in next, sc and slst to ch2. (29)

Round 3: Join white yarn in the top centre of the heart, ch1, dc in same, sk1, 1 sc in next two, (2 dc in next, ch2, 2 dc in next) corner 

hdc 1, sc 3, hdc 1, (2 dc in next, ch2, 2 dc in next) corner, 1 hdc in next, sc 3, 1 hdc, 2 dc in next, ch2, 2 dc in next, 1 hdc, sc 3, hdc 1, 2 dc in next, ch2, 2 dc in next, sc 2, sk1, slst to first. (36)

Round 4: ch1, hdc in same, hdc 4, (2 hdc, ch2, 2 hdc) in corner, *hdc 9, (2 hdc, ch2, 2 hdc) in corner*, repeat twice more, hdc 4, slst to first. (52) Turn

Round 5: ch1, (sc, dc, sc) in same, sk2, (sc, dc, sc) in same, sk2, (2 dc, ch2, 2 dc) in corner, sk2, *(sc, dc, sc) in next, sk2* repeat three more times (2 dc, ch2, 2 dc) in the corner. (64) Turn

Round 6: ch1, hdc in same, hdc 7, (2 hdc, ch2, 2 hdc) in corner, hdc 16, (2 hdc, ch2, 2 hdc) in next corner, hdc 8, slst to first. (80)


Round 7: ch1, hdc in same, hdc 9  (2 hdc, ch2, 2 hdc) in corner, *hdc 20, (2 hdc, ch2, 2 hdc) in next corner* repeat twice more, hdc 10, slst to first. (96)

 Joining squares together

When you have the squares made they can be joined using the slst method.

Slst along through the stitch of the bottom and top square and slst all the way across to make a row of how many squares long you want the blanket.


Make as many rows as you want the blanket and slst them together the same way.

Border

Round 1: With the wrong side facing, join white yarn ch1, sc around the whole blanket with (sc, ch2, sc) in each corner.


Round 2: ch4, dc in same, *sk2, dc, ch1, dc* repeat across, with *dc, ch1, dc* ch1, *dc , ch1, dc* in each corner, slst to centre of first v.


Round 3:
ch4, dc in same, *dc, ch1, dc in the centre of each v, *dc, ch1, dc* ch1, *dc , ch1, dc* in each corner, slst to centre of first v.


Round 4: ch1, sc in same, *5 dc in centre of next v, sc in centre of next v* repeat around, slst to first.
