Mia Cardigan Free Crochet Pattern

This cardigan works up thick and warm for winter, it's crochet from the top down all in one for less sewing!

The ad free pattern can be purchased here in sizes newborn - 12 months.

Materials

60g Paintbox yarns dk LoveCrafts candyfloss pink

4 mm hook

3 x 12mm buttons

Written in English US terms with abbreviations for UK.

sc=single crochet (double crochet UK)

hdc=half double crochet (half treble crochet UK)

ch=chain

inc=increase 

dec=decrease

rpt=repeat

slst=slip stitch

ps=puff stitch (yarn over, insert hook into stitch and pull up a loop four times, yarn over pull through all 9 stitches on hook and ch1)

Gauge Square

With 4mm hook

Row1 Ch10, hdc in 3rd ch from hook and each chain across. (8) Turn

Row2-4 ch1, hdc in base of ch1, hdc 7. (8) Turn

Square should measure just over 4.5cm.

If you're out with a 4mm hook try 4.5mm hook.

If you have problems hitting the length but the width is ok, try dc instead of hdc.

* Working in the first stitch ch1 does not count as a stitch so always ch1 and hdc in the first stitch.*

Row1 1 hdc in 3rd ch from hook, 1 hdc in each of next 4ch, 2 ps in next ch, 1 hdc in each of next 5ch, 2 ps in next ch, 1 hdc in each of next 12ch, 2 ps in next ch, 1 hdc in each of next 5ch, 2 ps in next ch, 1 hdc in each of next 5ch. Turn. 

 

Row2 ch1, 1 hdc in base of ch1, 1 hdc in each of next 5, 2 ps in between ps from last round, 1 hdc in each of next 7, 2 ps in between ps from last round, 1 hdc in each of next 14, 2 ps in between ps from last round, 1 hdc in each of next 7, 2 ps in between ps from last round, 1 hdc in each of next 6. Turn. 

 

Row3 ch1, 1 hdc in base of ch1, 1 hdc in each of next 6, 2 ps in between ps from last round, 1 hdc in each of next 9, 2 ps in between ps from last round, 1 hdc in each of next 16, 2 ps in between ps from last round, 1 hdc in each of next 9, 2 ps in between ps from last round, 1 hdc in each of next 7. Turn. 

 

Row4 ch1, 1 hdc in base of ch1, 1 hdc in each of next 7, 2 ps in between ps from last round, 1 hdc in each of next 11, 2 ps in between ps from last round, 1 hdc in each of next 18, 2 ps in between ps from last round, 1 hdc in each of next 11, 2 ps in between ps from last round, 1 hdc in each of next 8. Turn. 

 

Row5 ch1, 1 hdc in base of ch1, 1 hdc in each of next 8, 2 ps in between ps from last round, 1 hdc in each of next 13, 2 ps in between ps from last round, 1 hdc in each of next 20, 2 ps in between ps from last round, 1 hdc in each of next 13, 2 ps in between ps from last round, 1 hdc in each of next 9. Turn. 

 

Row6 ch1, 1 hdc in base of ch1, 1 hdc in each of next 9, 2 ps in between ps from last round, 1 hdc in each of next 15, 2 ps in between ps from last round, 1 hdc in each of next 22, 2 ps in between ps from last round, 1 hdc in each of the next 15, 2 ps in between ps from last round, 1 hdc in each of next 10. Turn. 

 

Row7 ch1, 1 hdc in base of ch1, 1 sc in each of next 10, 2 ps in between ps from last round, 1 hdc in each of next 17, 2 ps in between ps from last round, 1 hdc in each of next 24, 2 ps in between ps from last round, 1 hdc in each of next 17, 2 ps in between ps from last round, 1 hdc in each of the next 11. Turn. 

 

Row8 (Divide for arm holes) ch1, 1 hdc in base of ch1, 1 hdc in each of the next 11, 2 ps in between ps from last round, (front)  skip next 19, (armhole) 2 ps in between ps from last round, 1 hdc in each of the next 26, (back) 2 ps in between ps from last round, skip next 19, (armhole)  2 ps in between ps from last round, 1 hdc in each of the next 12 (front). Turn. 

 

Row9 ch1, hdc in base of ch1, sk1, 2 ps in next, *sk2, 2 ps in next* repeat to last 3 stitches sk2 and hdc in last. Turn.

 

(20 sets of ps and 2hdc) (4 sets of ps for left side, 12 sets ps for back, 4 sets ps for right side)

 

Row10 ch1, hdc in base of ch1, 2 ps in between each pair of ps and hdc at end. Turn.

 

Repeat Row10 for 7 more rows or  until work measures approx 8 Inches from  the shoulder. Fasten off. 

 

Sleeves

 

Row1 Join yarn under arm, ch1, 1 hdc in base of ch1, 1 hdc in each of next 23, slst to first. Turn. (24)

Row2-3 ch1, hdc to end, slst to first. (24) Turn

Row4 ch1, dec, hdc to end, slst to first. (23) Turn

Row5-6 ch1, hdc to end, slst to first. (23) Turn

Row7 ch1, dec, hdc to end, slst to first. (22) Turn

Row8 ch1, dec, hdc at end, slst to first. (21) Turn

Row9 ch1, hdc to end, slst to first. (21) Turn

 

Repeat row 9 until the sleeve measures 7 inches from the shoulder.

 

Fasten off and repeat for the other sleeve.

Button Band

Row1 Starting at left side bottom with rs facing join yarn ch1, sc in base of ch1, sc up to the top. Turn

Row2 (work this row in front loops) ch1, sc in base of ch1, sc all. Turn

Row3 ch1, sc in base of ch1, sc all. Turn

 

Fasten off.


Buttonhole Band

 

Row1 Starting at the right top side, with rs facing join yarn, ch1, sc in base of ch1, sc down to the bottom. Turn

Mark out with stitch markers or scrap yarn where you want the button holes.

Row2 (work this row in front loops) ch1, sc in base of ch1, sc all, but ch1 and skip where the stitch markers are to make the button holes.

 

Row3 ch1, sc in base of ch1, sc all including ch1s. 

Fasten off.
