Preemie Pixie Style Bonnet

This pixie bonnet is very simple to make, it is crochet in a rectangle then folded in half and sewn from the inside, then crochet around the bottom and make a choice of two styles of ties.

Written in English US terms with abbreviations for UK

sc=single crochet (double crochet in UK)

hdc=half double crochet (half treble crochet UK)

ch=chain

slst=slip stitch

blo=back loops only

flo=front loops only

Crab stitch (reverse sc) single crochet in the opposite direction= (double crochet in

opposite direction)

ps=puff stitch (yarn over pull up a loop four times, yarn over pull through all 9 loops on

hook and ch1 to finish)

Materials

50g dk / 8ply / light worsted acrylic yarn

4 mm hook

Needle

Scissors

Gauge Square

With 4mm hook

Row 1: Ch10, hdc in 3rd ch from hook and each chain across. (8) Turn

Row 2-4: ch1, hdc in base of ch1, hdc 7. (8) Turn

Square should measure just over 4.5cm.

If you're out with a 4mm hook try a 4.5mm hook.

If you have problems hitting the length but the width is ok, try dc instead of hdc.

Bonnet should measure 5 x 5 inches when folded flat.

Row 1: ch 50, sc in the second ch from hook and each chain across. (49) Turn

Row 2: (in flo) ch1, sc in the same and each stitch across. (49) Turn

Row 3: ch1, *ps, skip 1, ps* repeat across. Turn

Row 4: ch1, sc in the same, sc to end. Turn

Row 5: ch1, sc in the same, sc to end. Turn

Row 6: ch1, hdc in the same, hdc to end. Turn

Repeat row 6 until work measures 5 inches

Fasten off with a long end for sewing.

Fold the rectangle in half and sew along the opposite side of the puff stitches, from the inside.

Join yarn to the left front and crab stitch (reverse sc) to the other side, ch 36, sc in the second chain from hook and each chain back up to the bonnet, sc across the back of the bonnet, when you reach the other side of the front, ch 36, sc in the second ch from the hook and each chain back to the bonnet, slst to first and fasten off.
