Free Baby Sloth Amigurumi Crochet Pattern

This cute little sloth is part of my baby zoo collection there is 14 zoo animals in this range and are all free patterns on my website but they can all be purchased as ad free PDF here for £2.00 each

Written in US terms with abbreviations for UK terms

sc=single crochet (double crochet in UK)

inc=increase by 2 sc in next stitch (2 dc in next stitch UK)

dec=decrease by sc next 2 stitches together (dc next 2 stitches together)

ch=chain

Materials 

40g dk/light worsted brown yarn for main colour

20g dk/light worsted beige yarn

A small amount of dark brown for sewing nose and mouth

2mm hook I use this set from Amazon*

10mm black safety eyes

Polyester toy stuffing

Needle 

Stitch marker

All parts are made going round in a spiral, attaching arms and legs as we go to make less sewing.



Sloth will measure approximately 11 inches from head to toe when finished (8 inches when sat)


Eye patches

Make 2 in brown

Rnd1 ch7, 3 hdc in third chain from hook and 1 hdc in next 3, 8 hdc in last chain then working along other side 1 hdc in next 3, 4 hdc in last, slst to first. (22)

Fasten off and insert the safety eye through one side, ready for attaching to head. Do not put a stopper on yet.

 

Head


Start in beige

Rnd1 6 sc in magic circle. (6)

Rnd2 *inc* x 6. (12)

Rnd3 *sc 1, inc* x 6. (18)

Rnd4 *sc 2, inc* x 6. (24)

Place markers between rounds 3 and 4 for safety eyes.

Rnd5 *sc 3, inc* x 6. (30)

Rnd6 *sc 4, inc* x 6. (36)

Rnd7 *sc 5, inc* x 6. (42)

Change to brown

Rnd8 *sc 6, inc* x 6. (48)

Rnd8-18 sc all. (48)

Rnd19 *sc 6, dec* x 6. (42)

Place safety eyes with patches between rounds 3 and 4, 7 stitches apart, put a stopper on and sew around the edge of the patches when happy with position, then sew a nose and mouth in dark brown yarn.

Start to stuff and continue throughout

Fasten off and sew in ends.

Arms 

Make 2 using brown

Rnd1 5 sc in a magic circle. (5)

Rnd2 *inc* x 5. (10)

Rnd3-24 sc all. (10)

Fasten off and stuff.

Legs 

Make 2 using brown

Rnd1 6 sc in a magic circle. (6)

Rnd2 *inc* x 6. (12)

Rnd3-28 sc all. (12)

Fasten off and stuff.   

I did the claws at this stage but it will be easier to do the body and attach the legs and arm first.

Body 

Using brown

Rnd1 6 sc in a magic circle. (6)

Rnd2 *inc* x 6. (12)

Rnd3 *1 sc, inc* x 6. (18)

Rnd4 *2 sc, inc* x 8. (24)

Rnd5 *3 sc, inc* x 6. (30)

Rnd6-7 sc all. (30)

Over the next two rounds we will attach the legs

Rnd8 sc 6 through leg and body, sc 3, sc 6 through leg and body, sc 15. (30)


Rnd9 sc 6 through unused stitches of leg, sc 3 sc 6 through unused stitches of leg, sc 15. (30)

Rnd10-16 sc all. (30)

Rnd17 *sc 3, dec* x 6. (24)

Rnd18-19 sc all. (24)

Rnd21 sc up to the center back, ready for the next round. (18)


The next round we will attach arms, fold in half and sc through front and back of arms.


Rnd21 Sc 2, sc 5 through arm and body, sc 3, sc 5 through arm and body, sc 3. (18)

Fasten off leaving a long end to sew the body and finish stuffing.

Claws 

Using beige yarn insert hook on third row ch2 and fasten off. Skip one stitch and repeat twice more.

Sew in all the ends


Pin the head in place and sew when  happy with position, add more stuffing before closing up to ensure firm joining of head to body.
