Preemie Alpine Romper

This cute little romper is made using hdc stitches for the yoke then Alpine stitch (dc and fpdc stitches) for the body and back to hdc for the crotch. There will be one button at the back of the neck to fasten and three buttons for the crotch.

It can be made with or without sleeves.

Materials

100-160 metres of dk / weight 3 yarn (more will be needed if making the optional sleeves)

4mm crochet hook

3 x 10mm buttons

Written in English US terms with abbreviations for UK terms

sc = single crochet (double crochet in UK)

hdc = half double crochet (half treble crochet UK)

dc = double crochet (treble crochet UK)

fpdc = front post double crochet (front post treble crochet UK)

ch = chain

dec = decrease (crochet 2 stitches together)

slst = slip stitch

[ ] = in the same stitch

Gauge Square

With 4mm hook

Row 1: Ch11, hdc in 3rd ch from hook and each chain across. (9) Turn

Row 2-5: ch1, hdc in the same, hdc 8. (9) Turn

Square should measure 2” x 2”

*Working in first stitch ch1 does not count as a stitch, so always ch1 and sc, hdc or dc in the first stitch, unless stated*

Neck opening all sizes

Join yarn at the bottom left of the back opening, ch1, hdc up to the top. Fasten off.

Join yarn at the top right of the neck opening, ch1, hdc to the bottom. 

Fasten off, sew in all the ends, sewing down the flap at the bottom where the hook below is pointing to.

Sew button at the top left and fasten through the hdc.
