Bear Hat Set

This super cute matching baby set comes with a choice of beanie or bonnet with bear or bunny ears, with matching boots and mittens. They are simple and work up quickly making a super cute baby gift.

hdc=half double crochet (half treble crochet UK)

sc=single crochet (double crochet UK)

mc=magic circle

slst=slip stitch

dec=hdc invisible decrease (half treble invisible decrease) (see below)

ch=chain

bphdc=back post half double crochet (back post half treble UK)

The pattern stitch used is the lemon peel stitch also known as the griddle stitch.

Gauge 

Using a 4mm hook

Row 1: Ch11, hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc next 8. (9)

Row 2-5: ch1 hdc in base of ch1, hdc all. (9)

The square should measure 5cm x 5cm.

Hat

To fit an 11-12” head and should measure between 10-11” and 4.5”tall.

Round 1: ch4, slst to first to form a ring, ch2 and 11 hdc into ring, slst to top of ch2. (12)

Round 2: ch2, hdc in same as ch2, 2 hdc in all, slst to top of ch2. (24)

Round 3: ch2, hdc in same, hdc 1, *inc, hdc 1* repeat to end, slst to top of ch2. (36)

Round 4: ch2, hdc in same, hdc 2 *inc, hdc 2* repeat to end slst to top of ch2. (48)

Round 5: ch3, sc in next, *dc in next, sc in next* repeat to end, slst to top of ch3. (48) Turn

Round 6: ch1, dc in next, *sc in next, dc in next* repeat to end, slst to top of ch1. (48) Turn

Repeat round 5 and 6 until the hat measures 4.25 inches tall and do a round of hdc to finish.

Booties

Sole 

Round 1: ch11, 2 hdc in third chain from hook, 1 hdc in next seven, 6 hdc in last chain then working along other side, 1 hdc in each of the next seven, 3 hdc in the last, slst to first. (26)

Round 2: ch2, 1 hdc in the same stitch as ch2, 2 hdc in next, 1 hdc in each of the next eight, 2 hdc in next each of the next six, 1 hdc in each of the next nine, 2 hdc in each of the next two, slst to first. (36) 

Sole should measure 7cm long.

Instep

Round 3: ch1, fphdc in base of ch1, fphdc to end, slst to first. (36) 

Round 4: ch1, hdc in base of ch1, hdc 9, *hdc dec* x 8, hdc 10, slst to first. (28) 

Round 5: ch1, hdc in base of ch1, hdc 5, *hdc dec* x 8, hdc 6, slst to first. (20) Turn

Ankle

Round 6: ch3, sc in next, *dc in next, sc in next* repeat to end, slst to top of ch3. (20) Turn

Round 9: ch1, crab stitch around the top (reverse single crochet)

Fasten off.

Mittens

Should Measure 5cm wide x 8cm long.

Round 1: ch2, hdc 8 in a mc, slst to first. (9)

Round 2: ch1, 2 hdc in all, slst to first. (18)

Round 3: ch3, sc in next, *dc in next, sc in next* repeat to end, slst to top of ch3. (18) Turn

Round 4: ch1, dc in next, *sc in next, dc in next* repeat to end, slst to top of ch1. (18) Turn

Repeat rows 3 and 4 until 6.5cm 

Eyelets

 Ch1, sc in base of ch1, *ch1, sk1, sc* repeat to end. (18)

Ch1, hdc in base of ch1, hdc all including ch1s. (18)

Then do a row of crab stitch (reverse sc).

Fasten off.

Make ties for mittens by ch70 and slst in each chain, fasten off and weave through the eyelets made so the mittens can be fastened.
