Ayla Joggers

These cute high waist joggers are made top down using a herringbone half double crochet and a puff stitch. They are quick and easy to work up and match the Ayla Cardigan and Beanie.

SIZE

Preemie 5-6lb

MATERIALS 

200 metres dk / weight 3 yarn (metres in the size chart) I used Stylecraft Bambino shade Sage 268 metres per 100g ball

3.5 and 4mm crochet hooks

Written in English US terms with abbreviations for UK terms

sc = single crochet (double crochet in UK)

hhdc = herringbone half double crochet (herringbone half treble crochet UK) 

Yarn over, insert hook into next stitch and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook) pull first loop straight through the second (similar to a slip stitch). Yarn over, pull through two remaining loops on hook.

ps = puff stitch (insert hook into stitch, pull up a loop, *yarn over, insert hook into same stitch, pull up a loop* x 3, (8 loops on hook) yarn over pull through 8 loops, ch1 to finish

blo = back loop only (crochet into the back loop of the stitch

ch = chain

dec = decrease (crochet two stitches together)

slst = slip stitch

** = repeat between

[ ] = in the same stitch

hhdc2tog = yarn over, insert yarn into next stitch, insert hook into the next stitch and pull up a loop, four loops on hook, pull through first loop through second loop, yarn over pull through remaining three

GAUGE 

With 4mm hook

9 hhdc x 6 rows = 2” x 2”

WAISTBAND

Using a 3.5mm hook

Row 1: ch8, sc in the second ch from hook, sc 6. (7)

Row 2: (in blo) ch1, sc all. (7)

Repeat row 2 until 60 rows have been worked,then slst the first and last row together to form a circle.

Change to a 4mm hook

Round 1: ch2, hhdc 60, slst to first. (60) Turn

Round 2: ch2, *hhdc 5, [2 hhdc] in the next* x 10, slst to first. (70) Turn

Round 3: ch2, hhdc to end, slst to first. (70) Turn

Round 4: ch1, *ps, skip 1* repeat to end, slst to first. (70 including ch1s) Turn

Round 5: ch1, *skip 1, ps* repeat to end, slst to first. (70 including ch1s) Turn

Round 6: ch2, hddc to end, slst to first. (70) Turn

Repeat round 6 until work measures 6 inches. 

     

Divide for the legs

First Leg

Round 1: ch2, hhdc 32, slst to first, leaving the rest unworked. (32) Turn

Round 2: ch2, hhdc all, slst to first. (32)Turn

Repeat round 2 until the inside leg measures 3 inches.

       

EDGING

Round 1: ch1, *ps, skip 1* repeat to end, slst to first. (32 including ch1s) Turn

Round 2: ch1, *skip 1, ps* repeat to end, slst to first. (32 including ch1s) Turn

Round 3: ch2, hhdc to end, slst to first. (32) Turn

Round 4: ch1, *hhdc 2, hhdc2tog* x 8, slst to first. (24) 

Should now measure 4.5 inches. 

CUFFS

Change to a 3.5mm hook

Row 1: ch9, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch back to edge, join to the next stitch of the edge using a slst then work one more slst into the next stitch (2 slsts in total for joining) (8) Turn

Row 2: ch1, sc all in blo. (8) Turn

Row 3: (in blo) ch1, sc all back to edge, join to the next stitch of the edge using a slst then work one more slst into the next stitch (2 slsts in total for joining) (8) Turn

Repeat row 3 until you have worked all the way round, then sew the seam.

Finished inside leg should be 6 inches.

Skip 3 stitches and repeat from round 1 for the second leg. Sew the gap between the legs.

       

Waist tie

Ch 146 with a 4mm hook, fasten off and weave through the stitches of the first round after the waist band.
