C2C Corner to Corner Crochet

These instructions should help you start a c2c off, for your first project it may be best to make a plain square to get used to the technique, before you start your adventure of colour changing and using charts.

Ch = Yarn over and pull through the loop on hook.

slst = Insert hook into stitch, yarn over and pull through stitch, then pull through stitch on hook.

dc = Yarn over insert hook into the stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, *yarn over and pull through 2 loops* x 2.

WORKING CORNER TO CORNER NOTES

  • The first part of corner to corner will be increasing each row

  • The beginning of the ch6 is the ch3

  • Each part is always started in the same way, as below, if following a chart change colour as indicated on the chart.

  • The when you have reached the last block on the chart you will need to start decreasing.

TIP: If you are finding it a bit gappy between blocks make a ch5, dc in 3rd chain from hook, then ch2 instead of 3 to start new blocks.

STARTING

VIDEO

Row 1: Ch6, dc in the 4th chain from hook, dc 2. (place a stitch marker, to mark the right side) TURN

Row 2: ch6, dc in the 4th chain from hook, dc 2, slst to the ch3 from the previous row, ch3, dc 3. TURN

Row 3: ch6, dc in the 4th chain from hook, dc 2, *slst to the next ch3 space from the previous row, ch3, dc 3* repeat to the last block. TURN

Repeat row 3 until you want to start decreasing

CHANGING COLOURS

Keep all yarn tails at the back of work and wait to sew in when you have completed in case you go wrong.

Change colours, on the last dc of the previous square, by finish this dc by pulling the new colour through the last 2 loops.

Then slst to ch3 and work ch3 in the new colour.

It’s best to pick up new ball of main colour rather than carry yarn over longer colour changes.

You can carry the previous colour behind the stitches to save cutting the yarn when its a short colour change.

Always finish the last dc with the new colour.

DECREASING

VIDEO

You will need to start decreasing at the top or bottom of the chart you are following, follow these steps or watch a video.

When you have reached the end of the row, instead of making a ch6 follow step 1, then step 2:

STEP 1: ch1, slst 3 stitches across the block, so you land at the ch3 space,

STEP 2: *ch3, dc 3 in the ch3 space, slst to the next ch3 space* repeat to the last block.

If you are making a square you will follow the above steps to decrease on every row.

If you are making a rectangle you will only do the decrease at one side (every other row) until you reach your required size.

If you are only decreasing at one side continue the next row using a ch6 as row 3 above.
