This bobbles hat is made from the top down with hdc to do the increase rounds, then the bobbles effect is made using the bobble stitch and sc.

Written in English US terms with abbreviations for UK

sc=single crochet (double crochet in UK)

hdc=half double crochet (half treble crochet UK)

dc=double crochet (treble crochet in UK)

bphdc = back post half double crochet (back post half treble UK) 

ch=chain

slst=slip stitch

hdc dec=invisible decrease, hdc the next two stitches together (htc the next two stitches together UK) Insert hook into the front / back loop of the first stitch, insert hook into the front / back loop of the next stitch, yarn over and pull yarn through the first two loops on hook, (two loops left on hook), yarn over and pull through both loops.

bs=Bobble stitch- (yarn over, insert hook into stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over pull through 2 stitches), four times, you should have 5 stitches on hook yarn over and pull through all 5.

Row 1: Ch11, hdc in 3rd ch from hook and each chain across. (9) Turn

Row 2-5: ch1, hdc in the same, hdc 8. (9) Turn

Square should measure 2 x 2 inches.

Pattern notes

• If you're out with a 4mm hook try a 4.5mm hook.

• If you have problems hitting the length but the width is ok, try dc (treble crochet) instead of hdc

• Always ch2 and hdc or ch1 and sc in the same to start a round, unless stated. (The ch1 or ch2 does not count as a stitch)

• My examples are 0-3 months. I made the top of the hat white, then I did 4 rows pink, 2 rows peach, 2 rows lemon, 2 rows mint, 2 rows blue, 2 rows lilac, then the last 3 rows white. For the boots I did up to the ankle in white, then I did one row of each colour and decided to do 2 extra rows of sc in white to make them match the hat.
