Bramble Cardigan
Size Newborn to fit 14” chest
This cardigan is worked in one piece starting from the top and working down, then joining to make the sleeves and edging.

Written in English US terms with abbreviations for UK terms
sc=single crochet (double crochet in UK)
tc=treble crochet (double treble crochet UK)
slst=slip stitch
ch=chain
inc=increase
dec=decrease
ws=wrong side
rs=right side
sk=skip next stitch
Materials
200 meters of dk / 8ply / light worsted / weight 3 yarn
3.5 and 4mm hooks I use this set from Amazon*
4-5 x 15mm buttons
* Working in first stitch ch1 does not count as a stitch so always ch1 and sc in the first stitch*
Gauge Square
With 4mm hook
Row 1: Ch10, sc in 2nd ch from hook and each chain across. (9) Turn
Row 2-8: ch1, sc in base of ch1, sc 8. (9) Turn
Square should measure 2 inches x 2 inches
If you're out with a 4mm hook try a 4.5mm hook.
With 4mm hook Ch50
Row 1: 1 sc in second ch from hook, sc in next 48. (49)
Row 2: ch1, sc 7, 3 sc in next, sc 9, 3 sc in next, sc 13, 3 sc in next, sc 9, 3 sc in next, sc 7. (57) Turn
Row 3: ch1, sc 2, *tc, sc* repeat to end, sc in last. (57) Turn
Row 4: (Inc Row) ch1, sc 8, 3 sc in next, sc 11, 3 sc in next, sc 15, 3 sc in next, sc 11, 3 sc in next, sc 8. (65) Turn
Row 5: ch1, sc 1, *tc, sc* repeat to end. (65) Turn

Repeat rows 15 to 18 until work measures approx 8 Inches from shoulder. Ending with a sc row.
Edging
Row 1-2: ch1, sc all. (65) Turn
Button/Buttonhole Bands
Using 3.5mm hook
Button band
Row 1: With RS facing, join yarn to bottom of left hand side, ch1, sc evenly same amount of stitches as other side. Turn
Row 2: Ch1, sc all. Turn
Row 3: Ch1, sc all.
Fasten off.
Buttonhole band
Row 1: With RS facing, rejoin color 1 to the top of the right hand side of the front edge, ch1, work sc evenly across . Turn
Mark out where you want the button holes, on the next row ch1 and skip the one where the markers are.
Row 2: Buttonhole row, Ch1, sc all but ch1 and skip where markers are to create the button holes. Turn
Row 3: Ch1, sc all including chains.
Fasten off and sew your buttons on to match the button holes and weave in all ends.
Sleeves
With 4mm hook
Row 1: join yarn to first un-worked sc under arm, ch1, sc 26, slst to first sc on beginning of row. (26) Turn
Row 2: ch1, *sc, tc* repeat to end, slst to first. (26) Turn
Row 3: ch1, sc all, slst to first. (26) Turn
Row 4: ch1, *tc, sc* repeat to end, slst to first. (26) Turn
Row 5: ch1, sc all, slst to first. (26) Turn
Repeat rows 2 to 5 until the sleeve measures 7.5 inches from the shoulder, ending with a sc row.
Cuffs
Row 1: ch1, *sc 4, dec* x 4, slst to first, sc 2. (22) Turn
Row 2: ch1, sc all, slst to first. (22) Turn
Fasten off and repeat for the other sleeve.
