Newborn Alpine Dress

This dress is worked in one piece starting from the top with a raglan yoke and working down to the bottom. The full pattern with sizes newborn - 2 years can be purchased here

Materials

250 metres Emu Classic DK, light weight #3 yarn (100% Acrylic 282 m per 100 g skein)

US G/6 (4.0mm) crochet hook

Gauge

9 dc and 4 rows = 2”/5 cm

sc=single crochet (double crochet in UK)

dc=double crochet (treble crochet UK)

Special Stitches

fpdc (front post double crochet) = yo and insert hook into the front post of the dc below and dc as usual

bpdc (back post double crochet) = yo and insert hook into the back post of the dc below and dc as usual


Notes

  1. Similar weight yarns may be substituted; please check the gauge.

  2. Beginning ch1 and 3 does NOT count as stitch. 

The alpine stitch is worked using dc and fpdc stitches. In each round you will dc on top of the fpdc and fpdc in the dc below. 

On the yoke each round will be started with the corner (dc, ch1, dc), then *fpdc, dc*, after the next corner it will be the same so it will be pattern row 1 for each round of the yoke. If you end the first lot of stitches before corner with a dc, after the corner the next lot of stitches it will start with a fpdc.

Chain 56

Round 1: Slst to first to form a circle, ch1, sc in each chain to end, slst to first. (56) then continue to yoke.

Round 2: in blo (ch1, dc, ch1, dc) in the first, work 12 dc (sleeve), (dc, ch1, dc) in the same, work 14 dc (front), (dc, ch1, dc) in the next, work 12 dc (sleeve), (dc, ch1, dc) in the next, work 14 dc (back), slst to first, slst to ch1 corner space. (60)

From now on each round will be worked in pattern row 1.

Pattern row 1: (ch1, dc, ch1, dc) *fpdc, dc* to next ch1 space, (dc, ch1, dc) in the ch1 space.

Repeat rounds 5 and 6 until the dress measures 12 inches from the shoulder.

To edge the dress crab stitch (reverse sc) around the bottom. Do the same around the neck and armholes.
