Free Owl Amigurumi Crochet Pattern

These cute little owls are perfect for using up scrap yarn. They can be made with any weight yarn and hook you choose. They work up quick and will make a nice little gift.

Written in US terms with abbreviations for UK

sc=single crochet (double crochet in UK)

inc=increase by 2sc in next stitch

ch=chain

blo=back loop only

Bs=Bobble stitch- (insert hook into stitch, yarn over pull up a loop, yarn over pull through 2 stitches) x 2 you should have 3 stitches on hook, yarn over and pull through all 3.

Materials

20-30g dk/light worsted or chunky yarn

2mm or 3.5mm hook I use this set from Amazon*

10mm Safety eyes or black embroidery thread for sewn on eyes.

Polyester toy stuffing

Needle 

Stitch marker


All parts are made going round in a spiral.


Eyes

Using white

Rnd1 6 sc in magic circle. (6)

Rnd2 *inc* x 6. (12)

Rnd3 *1 sc, inc* x 6. (18) (Or do this round with contrasting colour if you want).

Fasten off, leaving a long end for sewing.

Head and body

Rnd1 6 sc in magic circle. (6)

Rnd2 *inc* x 6. (12)

Rnd3 *1 sc, inc* x 6. (18)

Rnd4 *2 sc, inc* x 6. (24)

Rnd5 *3 sc, inc* x 6. (30)

Rnd6 sc all in blo. (30)

Rnd7-20 sc all. (30)

Don't fasten off, complete these steps before closing up later.

If using safety eyes, place them in the centre of eye then through the head and put stoppers on when happy with position. 

Sew around the white. 


If sewing sleepy eyes use embroidery thread.

Sew a triangle for the beak in between the eyes.

Feet

With the owls head facing upwards, find the centre blo underneath the beak,  join yarn 6 stitches away from the centre stitch to the right of the beak. 


Ch1, bs in same, sc in next, bs in next, sc in next, bs in next, fasten off. 


Skip 3 stitches, join yarn and repeat above.


Fill the owl with stuffing.


Fold head in half and sc through front and back stitches to close up, fasten off and sew in all ends.

Wings

 

Make Two

Ch6, 1 sc in second ch from hook, hdc 1, 2 dc in next, hdc 1, sc 1, Ch2, slst into second ch

working up the other side of the chain, sc 1, hdc 1, 2 dc in next, hdc 1, sc 1, slst to fasten off, leaving a long end for sewing.

 

If you want to make the wings a bit bigger, using same or contrasting colour, ch1, sc in same, *ch1, sc in same* repeat all around and slst into first and fasten off, leaving a long end for sewing.

Sew a wing at each side. Sew only the top half of the wing. so that it flaps out at the bottom.

 

Ears 


Cut 4 strands of yarn about 4 inches long for each ear..

Fold the strands of yarn in half and pull the center part way through a stitch so its about an inch through forming a loop, then pull the tail ends of yarn through the loop and tighten to form a knot, trim to size and repeat for the other ear.
