Preemie Classic Hoodie

This cute hoodie is made from the neck down, then joined to make the sleeves and hood. It is made using a simple hdc (htc UK) stitch for the yoke and body. It is quick and easy to work up and can be made in one or many colours.

The full pattern comes in sizes preemie to 10 years with detailed photos and instructions for a cardigan version too and can be purchased here

Materials

280 metres of dk / weight 3 yarn (metres in the size chart) I used Stylecraft Bambino (268 metres per 100g ball) For the hoodie soft pink 7113 and white.

3.5 and 4mm crochet hooks

5 x 15mm buttons

Written in English US terms with abbreviations for UK terms

sc=single crochet (double crochet in UK)

whdc= wide half double crochet (wide half treble crochet UK)

(the wide hdc stitch is the same as a hdc but it is worked in a different place, it is worked between the two hdc from the row below see pictures on page 4.

dec=decrease (crochet two stitches together)

ch=chain

slst=slip stitch

Gauge

With 4mm hook

16 whdc and 12 rows = 4” x 4”

Pattern notes

  • Working in the first stitch the ch1 or 2 does not count as a stitch so always ch2 and whdc in the first stitch.

  • The first row of whdc on the yoke is right side facing.

  • Because of the placement of the whdc the increases may seem odd, but it works out.

  • The ch1 on the increases are counted in the stitch count.

  • For the striped versions I did 3 rows of main colour and 1 row of contrasting colour.

  • The sleeves can be decreased, by crocheting 2 stitches together every few rows if you prefer.

  • The bottom rib edging measures approximately 1” and can be made longer if you prefer, by adding more chains.

  • The bottom edging, cuffs and button bands are written for all sizes in this section.

  • The buttonholes can be made at either side.

  • If you dont reach the armhole depth before dividing for the armholes, make extra rows without increasing, this can be done by doing whdc across (1 whdc) in each ch1 space, do as many rows until you reach the armhole depth needed.
