Primrose Bonnet Set

These beautiful preemie bonnet and boots sets are super quick and easy to make and feature the primrose stitch to match the Primrose cardigan.

Materials 

4mm hook

Less than 150 metres of Dk / weight 3 yarn for each bonnet and boots set

Needle

Written in English US terms with abbreviations for UK

hdc = half double crochet (half treble crochet UK)

sc = single crochet (double crochet UK)

slst = slip stitch

Ch = chain

flo = front loop only (crochet into the front loop of the stitch)

blo = back loop only (crochet into the back loop of the stitch)

* * = in between should be repeated

[ ] = work in the same stitch

bs = Bobble stitch (yarn over, insert hook into next stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 stitches), five times, you should have 6 stitches on hook, yarn over and pull through all 6.


dec= invisible decrease, hdc the next two stitches together (htc the next two stitches together UK)

Yarn over, insert hook into the front loop of the first stitch, insert hook into the front loop of the next stitch, yarn over and pull yarn through the first two loops on hook, (three loops left on hook), yarn over and pull through three loops.

bphdc=half double crochet into the back post of the stitch (half treble crochet into the back post of the stitch)


Gauge 

Using a 4mm hook

Row 1: Ch11, hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc next 8. (9)

Row 2-5: ch1 hdc in the same, hdc all. (9)

The square should measure 2 x 2 inches.

*At the start of every round always ch1 and hdc or sc in same space, unless stated*

Bonnet

Round 1: ch4, slst to first to form a ring, ch1 and 11 hdc into the ring, slst to the first. (11)

Round 2: ch1, 2 hdc in the same, 2 hdc in all, slst to the first. (22)

Round 3: ch1, hdc in the same, 2 hdc in the next, *hdc 1, 2 hdc in the next* repeat to end, slst to the first. (33)

Round 4: ch1, hdc in the same, hdc 1, 2 hdc in the next, *hdc 2, 2 hdc in the next* repeat to end, slst to the first. (44)

Round 5: ch1, hdc in the same, hdc 2, 2 hdc in the next, *hdc 3, 2 hdc in the next* repeat to end, slst to the first. (55) 

Round 6: (in blo) ch1, sc in the same, sc 52, leaving the last two unworked. (53) Turn

Row 7: ch1, hdc in the same, skip 1 * [sc, ch2, sc], skip 2 * repeat to the last two stitches, skip 1, hdc in the last. Turn 

Row 8: ch1, dc in the same, [3 dc] in the ch2 space in the row below, [3 dc] in each ch2 space to end, ending with a dc in the last. Turn

Repeat rows 7 and 8 until bonnet measures 4.5 inches 

Ties

Continuing from the last round, ch52, sc in the second ch from hook, sc 50 back to the bonnet, sc around the back of the bonnet to the other side, ch52, sc in the second ch from hook, sc 50 back to the bonnet, slst and fasten off.

When folded flat the bonnet should measure 5 inches from top to bottom, 4.5 inches from front to back.

Boots

Sole 

Round 1: ch10, 3 hdc in third chain from hook, 1 hdc in next six, 6 hdc in last chain then working along other side, 1 hdc in each of the next six, 3 hdc in the last, slst to the first. (24)

Round 2: ch1, 2 hdc in the same, 2 hdc in next, 1 hdc in each of the next seven, 2 hdc in next each of the next six, 1 hdc in each of the next seven, 2 hdc in each of the next two, slst to the first. (34) 

Sole should measure 2.75” long

Instep
Round 3: ch1, bphdc in the same, bphdc to end, slst to the first. (34) 

Round 4:  ch1, hdc in the same, hdc to end, slst to the first. (34) 

Round 5: ch1, hdc in the same, hdc 9, *dec* x 7, hdc 10, slst to the first. (27) 

Round 6: ch1, hdc in the same, hdc 6, *dec* x 7, hdc 6, slst to the first. (20) 

Ankle 

Round 7: ch1, [sc, ch2, sc] in the same, skip 1, *[sc, ch2, sc] in the next, skip 1*, repeat to end, slst to the first ch2 space. 

Round 8: ch3, 2 dc in the same, [3 dc] in each ch2 space, slst to the first dc. 

Round 9: ch1, [sc, ch2, sc] in the same, skip 2, *[sc, ch2, sc] in the next, skip 2* repeat to end, slst to the first ch2 space.

Fasten off and sew in the ends.

Ties 

chain 78, fasten off, thread through the first round of ch2s. Tie the ends of the chain and snip.
