Hat Newborn 

Hat to fit 13-15” head, 5” tall when finished.

Written in English US terms with abbreviations for UK terms

sc=single crochet (which is double crochet in UK terms)

ch=chain

inc=increase 

slst=slip stitch

Ps-puff stitch yarn over pull up a loop four times yarn over pull through all 9 stitches on hook and ch1 to finish the stitch.

Materials

40g Painbox yarns dk LoveCrafts Paper white, candy floss pink or duck egg blue

4 and 4.5mm hooks I use this set from Amazon*

Pompom maker if you want to add one.

Gauge Square

With 4mm hook

Row1 Ch10, sc in 2nd ch from hook and each chain across. (9) Turn

Row2-8 ch1, sc in base of ch1, sc 8. (9) Turn

Square should measure 2 inches x 2 inches

If you're out with a 4mm hook try 4.5mm hook.

Hat

Rnd1 (rs) ch4, slst to first to form a ring, ch1 and 10 sc in ring, slst to first. (10) Tur

Rnd2 (ws) ch1, sc in base of ch1, sc all, slst to first. (10) Turn

Rnd3 (rs) ch1, 2 sc in base of ch1, 2 sc in all, slst to first. (20) Turn

Rnd4 (ws) ch1, sc in base of ch1, sc all, slst to first. (20) Turn

Rnd5 (rs) ch1, sc in base of ch1, inc in next,  *sc 1, inc* repeat to end, slst to first. (30) Turn

Rnd6 ws) ch1, sc in base of ch1, sc all, slst to first. (30) Turn

Rnd7 (rs) ch1, sc in base of ch1, sc in next, inc,  *sc 2, inc* repeat to end, slst to first. (40) Turn

Rnd8 (ws) ch1, sc in base of ch1, sc all, slst to first. (40) Turn

Rnd9 (rs) ch1, sc in base of ch1, sc 2, inc, *sc 3, inc* repeat  to end, slst to first with contrasting colour. (50) 

Change to 4.5mm hook

Row10 ch1, ps in base of ch1, sk1, *ps, sk1* to end, slst to first with main colour.

Row11  ch1, sc in base of ch1,  ps in next, and in between each ps from previous row to end, slst to first with contrasting colour.

Row12 ch1, ps in between each ps from the previous row, slst to first with main colour.

Repeat rounds 11 and 12 until work measures 4.5 inches.

Last rnd ch1, sc in base of ch1, sc on top of each puff stitch and each ch1 to end, slst to first. (50) Turn 

Repeat the last rnd twice more, turning at the end of each round.

Fasten off.
