Emu Classic DK, light weight 3 yarn in red (100% Acrylic 282 m per 100 g skein)

1 (1, 2, 2, 2) skeins  

A small amount of black dk, weight 3 yarn for the waist band and straps, a small amount of yellow for the buckle

A small amount of white fluffy yarn for the leg and hat cuffs, I used King Cole Truffle in coconut

Hook & Other Materials 

US Size G/6 (4.0mm) crochet hook I use this set from Amazon*

Yarn needle

2 x 15mm black buttons

Gauge

9 hdc and 5 rows = 2”/5 cm

Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain gauge.

Written in English US terms with abbreviations for UK

sc=single crochet (double crochet in UK)

hdc=half double crochet (half treble UK)

dc=double crochet (treble crochet UK)

ch=chain

slst=slip stitch

Special Stitches

fphdc=front post half double crochet (front post half treble crochet UK) = yo and insert hook into the front post of the hdc below and hdc as usual

bphdc=back post half double crochet (back post half treble UK)= yo and insert hook into the back post of the hdc below and hdc as usual

Notes

  1. Similar weight yarns may be substituted; please check the gauge.

  2. Beginning ch1 or ch2 does NOT count as a stitch.

To help prevent a seam at the back this is how I started and finished each round.

 My example is a size newborn.

Santa Pants

Starting with red 

Ch 68, (74, 80, 86, 92), slst to first to form a circle

Round 1: Ch1, hdc in the same, hdc 67, (73, 79, 85, 91), slst to the first stitch. (68, 74, 80, 86, 92)

Round 2: ch1, fphdc, bphdc across, slst to the first stitch. (68, 74, 80, 86, 92)

Change to black

Round 3-4: Ch1, hdc in the same, hdc all, slst to the first stitch. (68, 74, 80, 86, 92)

Change back to red

Round 5: ch1, hdc in the same, hdc all, slst to the first stitch. (68, 74, 80, 86, 92)

Round 6: ch1, *fphdc, bphdc* across, slst to the first stitch. (68, 74, 80, 86, 92)

Round 7: ch2, hdc in the same, hdc all, slst to the second stitch. (68, 74, 80, 86, 92)

Repeat round 7 until work measures 4.5, (5, 5.5, 7, 8) inches.

Legs

Round 1: Ch2, hdc in the same, hdc 33, (36, 39, 42, 45), slst to the second stitch, leaving the rest unworked. (34, 37, 40, 43, 46)

Repeat round 1 until the leg measures 5.5, (6.5, 7.5, 9, 11) inches.

 

Fasten off and join yarn and repeat for the second leg.

Join the white fluffy yarn and hdc around the bottom of each leg.

 

Straps

With black

Round 1: Ch7, hdc in third ch from hook, hdc 4. (5) Turn

Round 2: ch1, hdc in the same, hdc 4. (5) Turn

Repeat round 2 until the strap measures (13.5, 15.5, 17, 19, 21) inches, then continue to the button hole.

Button hole

Round 1: Ch1, sc in the same, sc1, ch1, skip 1, sc 2

Round 2: Sc in the same, sc 1, 2 sc in ch1, sc 2.

 

Buckle 

With yellow

Ch18 slst to first to form a ring.

Ch1, 3 sc in the same, 1 sc in each of the next 4, 3 sc in the next ch, 1 sc in each of the next 3, 3 sc in the next ch, 1 sc in each of the next 4, 3 sc in the next ch, 1 sc in each of the next 3, slst to first. 

Fasten off and sew in the centre front of pants on the black rounds.

Little Miss Christmas Dress

This dress is crochet all in one, starting from the top and has the option of adding fluffy yarn to the collar.

Written in English US terms with abbreviations for UK terms

sc=single crochet (double crochet in UK)

hdc=half double crochet (half treble crochet UK)

dc=double crochet (treble crochet in UK)

ch=chain

slst=slip stitch

blo=back loop only (crochet in the back loop of the stitch)


Materials 

4 mm hook

Dk / light worsted / 8ply yarn in Red for the main colour, also a small amount of white, black and yellow

Newborn 250 meters

0-3 months 300 meters

3-6 months 350 meters

6-12 months 440 meters

1-2 years 550 meters

Gauge Square

With 4mm hook

Row 1: Ch11, hdc in 3rd ch from hook and each chain across. (9) Turn

Row 2-5: ch1, hdc in base of ch1, hdc 8. (9) Turn

Square should measure 2 x 2 inches.

If you're out with a 4mm hook try a 4.5mm hook.

If you have problems hitting the length but the width is ok, try dc (treble crochet) instead of hdc


Buckle

With yellow

Ch18, slst to first to form a ring.

Ch1, 3 sc in the same, 1 sc in each of the next 4, 3 sc in the next ch, 1 sc in each of the next 3, 3 sc in the next ch, 1 sc in each of the next 4, 3 sc in the next ch, 1 sc in each of the next 3, slst to first.
