Pants

Newborn

To fit Waist: 14 (16, 17, 19, 21)”

Length: 11.5”

Hat

To fit head: 13-14”

Length: 5”

Yarn

Emu Classic DK, light weight 3 yarn in red (100% Acrylic 282 m per 100 g skein)

1 (1, 2, 2, 2) skeins  

A small amount of black dk, weight 3 yarn for the waist band and straps, a small amount of yellow for the buckle

A small amount of white fluffy yarn for the leg and hat cuffs, I used King Cole Truffle in coconut

Hook & Other Materials 

US Size G/6 (4.0mm) crochet hook I use this set from Amazon*

Yarn needle

2 x 15mm black buttons

Gauge

9 hdc and 5 rows = 2”/5 cm

Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain gauge.

Written in English US terms with abbreviations for UK

sc=single crochet (double crochet in UK)

hdc=half double crochet (half treble UK)

dc=double crochet (treble crochet UK)

ch=chain

slst=slip stitch

Special Stitches

fphdc=front post half double crochet (front post half treble crochet UK) = yo and insert hook into the front post of the hdc below and hdc as usual

bphdc=back post half double crochet (back post half treble UK)= yo and insert hook into the back post of the hdc below and hdc as usual

Notes

1. Similar weight yarns may be substituted; please check the gauge.

2. Beginning ch1 or ch2 does NOT count as a stitch.

To help prevent a seam at the back this is how I started and finished each round.

NEWBORN SANTA PANTS

Starting with red 

Ch 68, slst to the first to form a circle

Round 1: Ch1, hdc 68, slst to the first. (68)

Round 2: ch1, fphdc, bphdc across, slst to the first. (68)

Change to black

Round 3-4: Ch1, hdc all, slst to the first. (68)

Change back to red working in a spiral

Round 5: hdc all. (68)

Round 6: *fphdc, bphdc* across. (68)

Round 7: hdc all. (68)

Repeat round 7 until work measures 4.5, (5, 5.5, 7, 8) inches.

Legs

Round 1: hdc 34, slst to the first stitch, leaving the rest unworked. (34)

Round 2: hdc all. (34)

Repeat round 2 until the leg measures 5.5 inches.

Fasten off and join yarn and repeat for the second leg.

Join the white fluffy yarn and hdc around the bottom of each leg.

Straps

With black

Round 1: Ch7, hdc in third ch from hook, hdc 4. (5) Turn

Round 2: ch1, hdc in the same, hdc 4. (5) Turn

Repeat round 2 until the strap measures (13.5, 15.5, 17, 19, 21) inches, then continue to the button hole.

Button hole

Round 1: Ch1, sc in the same, sc1, ch1, skip 1, sc 2

Round 2: Sc in the same, sc 1, 2 sc in ch1, sc 2.

Buckle 

With yellow

Ch18 slst to first to form a ring.

Ch1, 3 sc in the same, 1 sc in each of the next 4, 3 sc in the next ch, 1 sc in each of the next 3, 3 sc in the next ch, 1 sc in each of the next 4, 3 sc in the next ch, 1 sc in each of the next 3, slst to first. 

Fasten off and sew in the centre front of pants on the black rounds.

Working in a spiral

Round 1: ch10, slst to first to form a ring, ch2, hdc 10. (10)

Round 2: hdc 10. (10)

Round 3: hdc 4, [2 hdc] in the next x 2. (12)

Round 4: hdc 5, [2 hdc] in the next x 2. (14)

Round 5: hdc 6, [2 hdc] in the next x 2. (16)

Round 6: hdc 7, [2 hdc] in the next x 2. (18)

Round 7: hdc 8, [2 hdc] in the next x 2. (20)

This dress is crochet all in one, starting from the top and has the option of adding fluffy yarn to the collar.

Row 3: ch2, hdc 3, [2 hdc] in the next x 18, hdc 2, slst to the first. (92) 

Row 4: ch2, hdc 4, [ 2 hdc] in the next x 18, hdc 2, slst to the first. (110) 

Row 5: ch2, hdc 5, [2 hdc] in the next x 18, hdc 2, slst to the first. (128) 

Row 6: (Divide for Armholes) ch2, hdc 1, ch4, skip 36, (armhole), hdc 28 (front), ch4, skip 36 (armhole), hdc 27 (back), slst to the first. (64) 

Row 7: ch2, hdc all (including a hdc in each chain), slst to the first. (64) Change to black

Row 2: ch1, sc 1, skip 3, [3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc] in the next, skip 2, sc 1, skip 2, [3 dc, ch1, 3 dc] in the next, skip 2 repeat to the end, slst to the first. Fasten off.

COLLAR

Working in the front loops from row 2, find the centre stitch at the front of the dress and place a marker, join white yarn in the next stitch. 

Row 1: ch1, hdc to the stitch before the marker. (73) Turn 

Row 2: ch1, hdc 8, [2 hdc] in the next x 8, hdc 1. (81) Turn 

I did row 3 with fluffy yarn, but it can be done in the same yarn as row 1 & 2 

Row 3: ch1, sc all. (81) Fasten off.

ARMS

Join yarn in the first unworked stitch under the arm 

Row 1: ch1, hdc all including the ch4, slst to the first. 

Row 2: ch1, sc 1, skip 3, [3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc] in the next, skip 2, sc 1, skip 2, [3 dc, ch1, 3 dc] in the next, skip 2 repeat to the end, slst to the first. Fasten off.

Buckle

With yellow

Ch18, slst to first to form a ring.

Ch1, 3 sc in the same, 1 sc in each of the next 4, 3 sc in the next ch, 1 sc in each of the next 3, 3 sc in the next ch, 1 sc in each of the next 4, 3 sc in the next ch, 1 sc in each of the next 3, slst to first. 

Fasten off and sew in the centre front of black.
