Summer Sunflower

Headband

This cute little headband is quick and easy to make and comes in sizes newborn to adult.

MATERIALS

I used Caron Cotton Angel Cakes (Sunny Day) Aran / weight 4 485 metres per 250g 

and small amounts of random DK / weight 3 in brown and mustard from my stash for the sunflowers.

4.5mm crochet hook

WRITTEN IN ENGLISH US CROCHET TERMS WITH ABBREVIATIONS FOR UK 

sc = single crochet (double crochet UK)

hdc = half double crochet (half treble crochet UK)

dc = double crochet (treble crochet UK)

ch = chain

blo = back loop only (crochet in the back loop of the stitch)

slst = slip stitch

[ ] = in the same stitch

WS = Wrong side

RS = Right side

GAUGE

With a 4.5mm hook

16 hdc in blo x 2 Rows = 4” x 1” (10cm x 2cm)

PATTERN NOTES

  • The ch1 does not count as a stitch.

These are the approximate measurements the finished headband should be. This finished headband will be smaller than the head size to allow negative ease.

HEADBAND

Chain the required stitches above

WS Row 1: hdc in 3rd chain from hook, hdc to the end, slst to the first. (54 / 59 / 63 / 72 / 77 / 86 / 90) Turn

RS Row 2: (in blo) ch1, hdc all, slst to the first. (54 / 59 / 63 / 72 / 77 / 86 / 90)

Fasten off

SUNFLOWER

Round 1: make a magic circle, ch1, sc 8 into the circle, slst to the first. (8)

Round 2: ch1, [2 sc] in each stitch, slst to the first ch2 space. (16)

Round 3: ch1, [dc, ch2, slst in the top of dc just made, dc, slst] in each stitch. (16 petals)

Fasten off and sew on the seam of the headband.
