Sunflower Garden Blanket

This blanket is made with 30 sunflower granny squares. Each square will measure approximately 6 inch.

If made using 5 squares wide by 6 squares long and bordering the finished blanket will be 30 x 36 inches, but this pattern can be made with any number of squares to be as big or small as you like.


Materials

Dk / weight 3 yarn

60 metres dark brown

100 metres light brown

150 metres yellow

240 metres green

760 metres white or cream

Written in English US terms with abbreviations for UK

sc = single crochet (double crochet in UK)

hdc = half double crochet (half treble crochet UK)

dc = double crochet (treble crochet UK)

tr = treble crochet (double treble UK)

slst = slip stitch

blo = back loop only (crochet into the back loop of the stitch

[ ] = in the same stitch

* * = repeat between

ch = chain

ps = medium puff stitch *yarn over insert hook into stitch, pull up a loop* x 2, 5 stitches on hook, yarn over pull through all 5, ch1.

Gauge

With 4.5mm hook

Row 1: Ch11, dc in fourth chain from hook, dc to end. (8)

Row 2-4: ch1, dc in same, dc to end. (8)

Square should measure 2”

Squares


Starting with dark brown and 4.5mm hook

Round 1: make a magic circle then ch2 and 8 hdc, slst to the first stitch. (8)  

Round 2: [ch2, 2 hdc] in the same stitch, [2 hdc] in each stitch to end, slst to the first stitch. (16) 

Fasten off.

Change to light brown

Round 3: ch1, ps in each stitch, slst to the first stitch. (16) 

Fasten off.

Join yellow in any ch1 space

Round 4: [ch2, 3 dc] in same,*remove hook from stitch and insert in top of first dc from front to back, insert into last dc and pull loop through, ch2, [3 dc] into next ch1 space* repeat to end, ch2, slst to the first stitch, slst to ch2 space. (16 petals)

Fasten off.

Join green in any ch2 space

Round 5: [ch3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc] in the same stitch for the first corner, [3 dc] in between each of the next three clusters below, *[3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc] in the next ch2 space, [3 dc] in between the next three clusters below* repeat twice more, slst to the first stitch. (60) 

Fasten off.

Join cream / white in any ch2 space

Round 6: [ch3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc] in the same stitch for the first corner, [3 dc] in between each of the next four clusters below, *[3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc] in the next ch2 space, [3 dc] in between the next four clusters below* repeat twice more, slst to the first stitch. (72) 

Continuous join


After completing the squares join with continuous join. (If you haven't done this before you might want to watch this video on my youtube).

Join cream or white in any ch2 corner space

On the first square complete round 6 and 7. Then on the second square and each square after complete round 6 then round 7 will be continuously joined.

Round 6: [ch3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc] in the same stitch for the first corner, [3 dc] in between each of the next four clusters below, *[3 dc, ch2, 3 dc] in the ch2 corner, [3 dc] in between each of the next four clusters below* repeat twice more, slst to the first stitch, then slst to the ch2 corner space to start the next round. (72)

Round 7: [ch3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc] in the same stitch for the first corner, [3 dc] in between each of the next five clusters below, *[3 dc, ch2, 3 dc] in the ch2 corner, [3 dc] in between each of the next five clusters below* repeat twice more, slst to the first stitch, then slst to the ch2 corner space to start the next round. (84)

Border

Join green in any ch2 corner space

Round 1: ch1, [sc, ch2, sc] in the same, *ch2, sc between each cluster and in each ch2 space at the joins, [sc, ch2, sc] in each corner*, slst to the first.

Fasten off.

Join white / cream in any ch2 corner space


Round 2: ch3, [2dc, ch2, 3 dc] in the same, *3 dc in each cluster, [3 dc, ch2, 3 dc] in each corner* repeat to end, slst to the ch2 corner space.


Round 3:
ch1, [sc, ch2, sc] in the same, skip 1, *[sc, ch2, sc] in the next, skip 1* repeat to the end, slst to the first.

Fasten off.
