The cardigan is crochet all in one, starting from the top, made with a hdc yoke and bobble stitch body and sleeves.

sc=single crochet (double crochet in UK)

hdc=half double crochet (half treble crochet UK)

dc=double crochet (treble crochet in UK)

ch=chain

slst=slip stitch

dec = decrease (crochet 2 stitches together)

bs=Bobble stitch- (yarn over, insert hook into stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over pull through 2 stitches), four times, you should have 5 stitches on hook yarn over and pull through all 5.

Gauge Square

With 4mm hook

Row 1: Ch11, hdc in 3rd ch from hook and each chain across. (9) Turn

Square should measure 2 x 2 inches.

If you're out with a 4mm hook try a 4.5mm hook.

  • If you have problems hitting the length but the width is ok, try dc (treble crochet) instead of hdc

Buttonhole band

 

Row 1: ch1, sc in the same, sc evenly up to the top. Turn

Mark out where you want the button holes

Row 2: ch1, sc in the same, sc to bottom, (where markers are skip that one, ch1 and sc in the next). Turn

Row 3: ch1, sc in the same, sc evenly up to the top (sc in the ch1 space). 

 

Button band

 

Row 1: ch1, sc in the same, sc evenly down to the bottom. Turn

Row 2: ch1, sc in the same, sc to the top. Turn

Row 3: ch1, sc in the same, sc down to the bottom.

 Fasten off. Sew in all the ends and sew buttons to line up with the button holes.

Sleeves 

 

With 4mm hook

Row 1: with the wrong side facing, join yarn to first unworked stitch under the arm, ch1, 1 hdc in the same, 1 hdc in each of the next 23, slst to the first. (24) Turn

Row 2: ch1, sc in the same, sc to the end, slst to the first. (24) Turn 

Row 3: ch1, sc in the same, sc 2, bs, *sc 3, bs* repeat to the end, slst to the first. (6 bs, 18 sc) Turn

Row 4: ch1, sc in the same, sc to the end, slst to the first. (24) Turn 

Row 5: ch1, sc in the same, bs, *sc 3, bs* repeat to the last two stitches, sc in the last 2, slst to the first. (6 bs, 18 sc) Turn

Row 6: ch1, sc in the same, sc to end, slst to the first. (24) Turn 

 

Repeat rows 3-6 until the sleeve measures 6.5 inches from the shoulder, ending with a bobble row then continue to the cuffs.

 

Cuffs 

 

Row 1: With the right side facing, ch1, sc in the same, dec, *sc 1, dec* repeat to end, slst to the first. Turn

Row 2-3: ch1, sc in the same, sc to the end, slst to the first. Turn

Fasten off and repeat for the other sleeve.
